WoodCraft Course at Red House Restorations:

The WoodCraft Course offers a hands-on introduction to traditional woodworking, designed for beginners and open to participants of all levels. The course runs for a total of 10 hours, which can be completed either over four weekday evenings or two consecutive Saturdays at Red House Restorations.

During the course, participants will create a real piece of furniture using only hand tools. At the start, you can choose one of two training projects — a low bench or a stool. You may decide to follow the original design or adapt its proportions and details to suit your personal taste. The course also includes time for each participant to develop and tailor their own ideas into an individual project.

Once the structure is complete, you will learn how to finish and personalize your piece using natural paints and oils. Throughout the process, you will explore the fundamentals of woodworking — from shaping and joining to carving and finishing — and gain a deeper understanding of how wood behaves, its strengths, and its limitations.

All sessions take place in a calm and safe workshop environment, free from noisy machinery. Work is done entirely with hand tools, and participants receive guidance at every stage from an experienced craftsman.

Tuition is provided in small groups of up to four people, ensuring close supervision and access to the workshop’s full range of tools and materials. All materials used in the course are upcycled and provided free of charge.

Working with wood is a dialogue with a living material — each grain and texture tells its own story. This course gives you the opportunity to learn how to shape, restore, and transform wood into a unique, functional object of your own making.

Materials

Each student is provided with everything needed to create a piece of furniture.

All the tools needed to carry out the planned tasks are included in the workshop fee - with the exception of paint brushes. If these are borrowed from the workshop. Each student is responsible for cleaning and maintaining or an additional fee will be charged.
