These practical sessions offer a technical immersion in the traditional craft of woodworking, exploring everything from the use of hand and power tools to carving and finishing methods.

In these hands-on classes, you will explore a wide range of restoration and woodworking techniques, including patching wood or veneer and traditional gluing methods. Each participant brings their own project—furniture or object of choice—and learns to assess its condition, plan the necessary steps, and carry out each stage of the work. Please send the pictures of your object, and our tutors will estimate the time required to work on your piece or offer alternatives from the workshop.

Each session lasts three hours and takes place at Red House Restorations,  a fully equipped workshop in Almada open to all levels of experience. Whether you are restoring an old piece, transforming a found object, or creating something new, you will receive individual guidance from a professional craftsman.

Sessions are run in small groups of up to four people, allowing for focused, personalised instruction. Each session functions as a small-group tutorial dedicated to your individual project. Participants have full supervised access to the craft space and tools. You can attend for as long as you wish, progressing at your own pace and deepening your skills week by week.

Whether you’re an experienced woodworker or a complete beginner, these sessions provide the opportunity to work deeply with timber—where creation meets transformation.

Materials

Each student brings a piece of furniture to restore or recycle. 

When booking for the first time, we kindly ask you to send us an image of the piece you want to bring. The piece must be small or medium-sized, regardless of the complexity of the work to be done.

All the tools needed to carry out the planned tasks are included, with the exception of paintbrushes. If these are borrowed from the workshop. Each student is responsible for cleaning and maintaining or additional fee will be charged.
